Future Memory

Format →  exhibition and performances

It’s OK to smash things if it makes you happy.

Memory, far from being a static repository of events, is a personal and evolving narrative of reality uniquely woven by the emotions, biases, and perspectives developed of an individual; a testament to the subjectivity of all human experience and the way we interpret the world around us.

Augmented reality and artificial intelligence evolutes and challenges the connection between memory and technology, a convergence inviting one’s own involvement in the generation of memory, powering us to scope narratives, code identity, and time. Tech artists are employing AR and AI to craft immersive sensory experiences which challenge the presupposition of reality itself. Future Memory explores how technology extends an individual’s ability to shape truth by allowing the communal envisioning of the future while blurring limitations of the past and present.

Amidst challenges of resource scarcity and climate change, artists bear profound responsibility. We acknowledge the weight of ecological concerns while also providing retreat from the pressure by prioritizing rest and play — both important elements for cognitive function and memory recall. Survival requires action, but also self-preservation.

Can joy become a sustainable resource?

From imaginative and dreamy worlds to transgressive expressions resembling aggressive forms of liberation, freedom and release, Future Memory, explores infinite potentials of joy through an interdisciplinary lens.

Future Memory artists use painting, sculpture, photography, installation, digital, and performance art to inspire viewers to remember joy in their shared future.
